Express attraction without making assumptions
Show romantic interest while keeping the conversation focused on the person and their preferences.
Choose a personal compliment
Notice something about the individual's style, humour or the way they describe an interest. A compliment can be direct without reducing someone to a category. Avoid treating a trans identity as a novelty or assuming that it tells you what a person enjoys. Let their words guide how you address them.
Check whether flirting is welcome
A conversation can become more playful when both people participate. If you are unsure, ask: “Would you be comfortable if we flirted a little?” An answer may be yes, no or not now. Accept it without bargaining. Do not send intimate photographs or graphic messages without a clear invitation.
Keep attention mutual
Notice whether both people contribute and feel able to change the subject. A compliment does not purchase attention, a meeting or physical affection. If the tone changes, ask rather than interpreting it as a challenge. Attraction can be exciting while still leaving each person in control of what they share and what happens next.
